Rock Bottom and Gordon Biersch: Two Become One
Major news in the chain brewpub world, Rock Bottom Brewery and Gordon Biersch announced today that they are merging. The new company will be called CraftWorks Restaurants and Breweries, Inc and oversee more than 200 individual locations. They said they will be keeping the brands intact, and though they haven’t specifically said, hopefully the individual style of brewing at each location as well.
The ability to streamline their supply chain is the obvious reason to create this monster, but as we all know, beer ingredients aren’t exactly cheap either. We can only hope that buying double the quantity of specialty grains and other ingredients could lead to more experimentation of great beer styles (and maybe keeping prices down??? – nah).
The BeerDownload staff and friends have spent many fine evenings at various Rock Bottom and Gordon Biersch locations, especially the Downtown Chicago location, who’s former brewer, Pete Crowley is soon to open Haymarket Brewery on Chicago’s West side.
